The Garden to Table Bake Sale returns, with support from Westgold
Garden to Table tamariki will soon be getting creative in the kitchen, as they whip up all sorts of yummy home-baked kai, with the Garden to Table Bake Sale returning for the second year in a row.
Commencing the week of May 8th, the Bake Sale - which is supported by Westgold, will provide schools with a unique fundraising opportunity that not only enriches student learning, but also helps bring local communities together.
Last year, the inaugural Bake Sale challenged students to honour the many subtle and varied flavours of fresh, seasonal produce in their baking.
With baked items like beetroot cake, apple cookies, and kumara bliss balls featuring on the menu, it’s fair to say we were impressed by the creativity that tamariki demonstrated, as they redefined the meaning of a traditional bake sale.
This year, the theme remains - and participating schools are being encouraged to use produce straight from the garden in their baking.
These in-school fundraisers are being supported by our proud partner, Westgold Butter.
Westgold’s purpose is to inspire confidence and creativity in cooking and baking - and we’re looking forward to seeing this reflected in the Bake Sale, with each school receiving 10 blocks of Westgold Butter to help them get on their way.
Each fundraiser is set to be a rich learning opportunity for tamariki - with maths, science and art naturally represented in the measuring of ingredients, preparation of a recipe, and presentation of the baking, for example.
Our Trust looks forward to supporting schools with resources to help plan recipes, price the products, and promote their Bake Sale, and we can’t wait to see what’s on offer.
